Capable, principled, effective - these words describe Mary Verner.  While serving Spokane, Mary has proven again and again that she is committed to providing responsive and accountable city leadership. Mary has a wealth of training and experience. She is honest and sincere. She has proven herself to be inclusive and decisive.  Most importantly, Mary is involved and approachable, earning her the label of “The Peoples Mayor”.

Mary’s priorities are the priorities of the people. She has led improvements in public safety, from efficiencies in emergency medical response, to comprehensive reforms to achieve "better justice sooner" in the criminal justice system.  Mary has set a high standard for infrastructure, conserving water and energy, striving to clean up the Spokane River with multi-benefit investments, and moving transportation projects toward "complete streets" with multi-modal options. She is expanding recycling and improving waste disposal options. She is elevating the role of urban forestry in City projects, and engaging citizens and multiple disciplines early in project planning.

Mary has developed a balanced city budget, with labor union participation, under very trying circumstances.  And, even in a deep recession, she is bullish on the sustainable economy she is helping to build and grow.
